New Testament · Farewell Letter

2 Timothy

4 chapters · 83 verses · Paul · ~67 AD

Paul's last letter. Written from a Roman dungeon, awaiting execution. "I have fought the good fight. I have finished the course. I have kept the faith." These are a dying man's final words.

Overview

2 Timothy is the Bible's most poignant goodbye. Paul knows he is about to die. He pours everything left into Timothy: be strong, endure suffering, hold to truth, pass it on. The letter is both deeply personal ("bring the cloak I left at Troas") and theologically weighty ("All Scripture is God-breathed"). It's the last canonical words from Christianity's greatest theologian.
