Amos

9 chapters · 146 verses · Amos · ~760 BC

A sheep farmer with no credentials walks into the wealthiest kingdom in Israel's history and says: God is disgusted by your worship because you ignore the poor.

Overview

Amos is the Bible's manifesto on social justice. God doesn't want songs and offerings from people who exploit the vulnerable. The rich were living in luxury while the poor were sold for a pair of sandals. Amos's message is uncomfortable for every generation: true worship and justice for the marginalized are inseparable.
