Habakkuk

3 chapters · 56 verses · Habakkuk · ~612 BC

"How long, God?" A prophet argues with the Almighty about injustice — and God's answer makes things worse before it makes them better.

Overview

Habakkuk does what most people are afraid to do: he confronts God directly. "Why do you tolerate wrong?" God answers: "I'm sending Babylon." Habakkuk is horrified: "That's your solution?" The book ends not with answers but with a choice — to trust anyway. The famous line "the righteous shall live by faith" comes from this anguished dialogue.
