Ruth

4 chapters · 85 verses · Unknown · ~1000 BC

In the darkest chapter of Israel's history, a foreign widow says the most beautiful words of loyalty ever spoken — and becomes the great-grandmother of King David.

Overview

Ruth is a love story set against the backdrop of famine and loss. A Moabite widow chooses to follow her Israelite mother-in-law back to Bethlehem with nothing. There she meets Boaz, a "kinsman-redeemer" who restores everything. The genealogy at the end reveals the punchline: Ruth is in the bloodline of Jesus.
