· Translation: KJV

Numbers 3:38Those who encamp before the tabernacle eastward, in front of the Tent of Meeting toward the sunrise, shall be Moses, and Aaron and his sons, keeping the requirements of the sanctuary for the duty of the children of Israel. The stranger who comes near shall be put to death.

The setting

Sinai Peninsula, ~1445 BC. The most sacred position in the camp - directly east of the tabernacle entrance, where the glory cloud would appear, in what is now the Egypt/Saudi Arabia border region.

The emotion here: solemn awareness of the weight Moses and Aaron carried daily

The original word

mizrach (מִזְרָח) — toward the sunrise, the place of light and God's presence

Why it matters

The east side was where God's glory entered the tabernacle - Moses and Aaron literally camped at the threshold of divine presence
