John

21 chapters · 879 verses · John (the beloved disciple) · ~90 AD

"In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God." John doesn't start with a manger. He starts with eternity.

Overview

John is the most theological Gospel — less biography, more revelation. Seven miracles ("signs"), seven "I AM" statements, and long discourses where Jesus explains who He is and why He came. The upper room chapters (13–17) contain Jesus's most intimate words. John wrote so that "you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God."
