Psalms 127

About this chapter

Psalms 127United Kingdom

resting

SolomonWise king of Israel writing about life's true priorities. Set in Jerusalem. Solomon, the builder of the temple and master of wisdom, delivers a reality check about human effort versus divine blessing. Workers can labor all night on a house, but without God's involvement, it's pointless. Guards can patrol a city endlessly, but God is the true protector. Even children—the ultimate blessing—come from His hand, not human planning.

Psalms 127:1127:1

The peaceful surrender that comes from realizing your efforts are meaningless without God's blessing.

Read when: Read this when you're exhausted from trying to control outcomes and need to remember that God's blessing makes all the difference.

1Unless Yahweh builds the house, they labor in vain who build it. Unless Yahweh watches over the city, the watchman guards it in vain. 2It is vain for you to rise up early, to stay up late, eating the bread of toil; for he gives sleep to his loved ones. 3Behold, children are a heritage of Yahweh. The fruit of the womb is his reward. 4As arrows in the hand of a mighty man, so are the children of youth. 5Happy is the man who has his quiver full of them. They won't be disappointed when they speak with their enemies in the gate. A Song of Ascents.
