Psalms 125
About this chapter
Psalms 125 — Post-Exilic Period
Anonymous — Unknown psalmist celebrating God's protection of His people. Set in Jerusalem, surrounded by mountains. Standing in Jerusalem and seeing mountains on every side, the psalmist declares an unshakeable truth: God's people are like Mount Zion itself—immovable, permanent, protected. Even when wicked rulers hold temporary power, they won't remain forever because God's justice will prevail. The righteous may bend but will never be broken.
“Psalms 125:1” — 125:1
The quiet confidence of knowing you're standing on unshakeable ground.
Read when: Read this when you need assurance that God's protection around you is as solid and permanent as mountains.
1Those who trust in Yahweh are as Mount Zion, which can't be moved, but remains forever. 2As the mountains surround Jerusalem, so Yahweh surrounds his people from this time forth and forevermore. 3For the scepter of wickedness won't remain over the allotment of the righteous; so that the righteous won't use their hands to do evil. 4Do good, Yahweh, to those who are good, to those who are upright in their hearts. 5But as for those who turn aside to their crooked ways, Yahweh will lead them away with the workers of iniquity. Peace be on Israel. A Song of Ascents.
